ANCIENT SOIL ACID
Humic Acids are a group of complex organic compounds, which are produced through the biologic decomposition of organic material. The term "Humic Acid" is used to characterize this entire group of complex polymeric organic acids. These organic acids (humic, fulvic, ulmic, and others) are created in a variety of different environments, both aquatic and terrestrial. Humic matter comes from a variety of sources including, aquatic environments, geologic deposits and wetlands. Humic matter is also created from agricultural, industrial and municipal activities.
Humic Acids are found, in varying type and concentration, in deposits of terrestrial organic material (topsoil, compost), as well as aquatic (streams, lakes, wetlands, oceans) depositional environments. The age of the deposit, differing source materials, and the conditions under which the organic material is deposited and preserved, create an organic acid complex, with a range of molecular weights, chemical composition, structure, and functional applications.
Humic acids are considered agriculturally beneficial, and studies continue to show the positive effects of humic acids on soil structure and plant health, and have been found to promote the growth of and proliferation of beneficial soil microorganisms, improve nutrient availability, and amend the physical characteristics of the soil.
Humic acids are one of most active fractions of organic materials, they improve the absorption of nutrients by plants and soil microorganisms, have a positive effect on the dynamic of soil nutrient cycling, stimulate plant respiration and the photosynthesis process, and favor the formation of soil aggregates.
Humic acid is a fundamental component in any organic crop program, when used in conjunction with a well-balanced soil management program, will enhance the overall soil and plant health, yields and performance of any agricultural system.
